Domestic
Law

My husband, Jamie L. Turner, is a family lawyer with 22 years of experience, whose primary focus is domestic law litigation. Jamie is very passionate about this field and constantly keeps me updated in this area. Jamie has been my mentor since my articling years, while we do not practice in the same office and cannot discuss specific cases, with a consent of a client we can collaborate on a file and even defend your interest in court.

I have worked with many cases where a family, new to Canada, is involved in a marriage break-up. On top of all the usual difficulties of being a new immigrant like adjusting to a new culture, no family support, no language, and often no job, now they are faced with dealing with a divorce and a legal system that is unknown to them. Newcomers often fall into the trap of comparing our legal system with that in their home country. This can cause a lot of confusion, frustration and even anger against their own lawyers. Being an immigrant myself and having lived in different countries, I understand all these difficulties. My goal is to achieve the best results for you, at the lowest cost available, pursuant to our laws.

At my first meeting with a client, I will explore with you the possibility of settlement out of court. If this is not an option, I will be happy to vigorously defend your interest in court. So, when I tell you: “Let’s try to settle” it does not mean that I am afraid, it does not mean that I don’t know the law, it means that I care about you and your children, who can benefit from the funds that you and your spouse will spend on legal fees in pursuit of your separation, divorce, custody or visitation arrangements. Ultimately, it is your choice as to how you wish to proceed but know that I have your and your family’s best interests at heart.
